It's time to go coco loco for one of the best flavours around. It is, of course, coconut. Found in everything from curries to cakes, this popular taste sensation is famous the world over, probably because it's so versatile, being used for everything from beauty to cooking, as well as being utterly delicious.
It's known for its popularity in Thai takeaways and indeed a prevalence in many Asian cuisines. But these days, everyone is using it and it's really shaking things up.
It's an ideal ingredient for those with food intolerances, health concerns or those following a vegan or paleo diet, because it adds a creamy taste without the need for dairy produce.
A lot of us now know where the hidden Thai treats are across the Emirates, but what about the use of coconut across the board in Dubai? We've put together some of our faves to satisfy those cravings!
1. Carre Magical Bali
Encas believes in natural and nutritional treats, making your body feel as good as your taste buds do with every bite. Everything is paleo, gluten free and vegan friendly, so you don't have to worry if you have dietary requirements about enjoying something wholesome and pure that actually tastes amazing. A Carre is a square cake that's layered with a crunchy biscuit base, a filling and finally a crackling chocolate top. This particular offering truly is magical; it's made with natural ingredients to bring about a true coconut and chocolate experience. These raw vegan bites really are perfect for snacking (or indulging)!
2. Crispy 'Not Duck' Spring Rolls
Vegans - don't worry, Be Super Natural Kitchen doesn't leave you out, either. The Crispy "Not Duck" Spring Rolls are super popular, and it's really not difficult to see why. These coconut and courgette spring rolls are packed full with spring onion and cucumber, but the star of the show is the crispy "not duck", a wholly meatless substitute to make the dish authentic, and to die for (except no animals actually did!). Super Natural is supernatural, indeed!
3. Green Curry
Thai cuisine is known for using copious amounts of tropical coconut and Fuchsia Urban Thai is no exception. Their take on the classic green curry will go down a treat. Using fragrant flavours such as green chillies, ginger, lemongrass and coriander as well as a variety of other herbs, these are crushed up and blended with coconut milk to make a silky but spicy base. Sweet basil finishes the dish off. It's no wonder people can't get enough of it!
4. Kerela Fish Curry
If you love Indian food, you'll adore Bombay Bungalow, known for its true-to-taste Indian curries to be enjoyed across Dubai. Taking inspiration from all over India, South Indian curries don't get much better than the Kerela Curry. It's got a coconut masala base, complete with delicious fresh fish. There's so much flavour going on, you'll be impressed with each and every bite.
